There are two ways to turn a video and they are not equivalent. Rewriting the rotation metadata is instant and completely lossless, but it only asks the player to turn the frames — plenty of editors, social platforms and older players ignore the flag and show the clip sideways anyway. Re-encoding with the transpose filter actually moves the pixels, so every player honours it, at the cost of one quality pass. This tool offers both and explains which is which, rather than picking silently for you. Mirroring can only be done the second way, since a flip cannot be expressed as a rotation flag. Everything runs on your device, so a large clip never leaves your machine.

How do I rotate a video 90 degrees?
Load the clip, choose 90° clockwise or counter-clockwise, and run it. Re-encoding moves the pixels so the result is upright everywhere; metadata-only is faster but relies on the player honouring the flag.
Does rotating a video reduce its quality?
Re-encoding costs one generation of compression, which is barely visible at a sensible quality setting. The metadata path is completely lossless because the video stream is copied untouched.
Why do phone videos come out sideways on a computer?
The phone records in one orientation and stores a rotation flag telling players how to display it. Software that honours the flag looks right; software that ignores it shows the raw sideways frames.
What is the difference between flipping and rotating?
Rotating turns the image around its centre and a quarter turn swaps width and height. Flipping mirrors it across an axis, which reverses text and cannot be undone by any amount of rotation.
Will rotating change the file size?
Metadata-only rotation leaves it essentially unchanged. A re-encode reshapes the file entirely, so the size depends on the quality setting rather than the original — expect it to be in the same ballpark.
