Music Tools

ArrayKit's music tools give practice and tuning helpers a place in any browser tab. Tune a guitar, bass, ukulele or violin with the Guitar Tuner, which listens through your microphone or plays reference tones for tuning by ear. Play melodies and chords on the Virtual Piano with a mouse, a touch screen, your computer keyboard or a MIDI keyboard, then save what you played as a MIDI file. Keep steady time with the Metronome and its time signatures, subdivisions and speed trainer, find the tempo of anything with the BPM Counter by tapping along or analysing a song file, and produce sine, square, sawtooth or triangle tones from 1 Hz to 20 kHz with the Tone Generator. Sound is made on your device, and microphone audio is analysed live without being recorded or uploaded.

  • Metronome — A steady click from 20 to 300 BPM with time signatures, subdivisions, accents and tap tempo.

  • Virtual Piano — Play a piano keyboard with mouse, touch or computer keys, with sustain, several sounds, recording and MIDI export.

  • Tone Generator — Generate sine, square, sawtooth and triangle tones from 1 Hz to 20 kHz, with sweeps and left or right channel control.

Frequently asked questions

Which music tools does ArrayKit offer?
A guitar tuner with presets for guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, banjo and mandolin plus a chromatic mode; a virtual piano with recording and MIDI export; a metronome with tap tempo and a speed trainer; a BPM counter that taps or analyses a song; and a tone generator with sweeps. Each one runs in a single page.
Do the music tools record or upload my audio?
No. The tuner reads the microphone signal as it arrives, works out the pitch on your device and discards the audio; nothing is recorded, stored or sent anywhere. The piano, metronome and tone generator only produce sound, and a song file you give the BPM Counter is analysed in your browser and not uploaded.
Why does the tuner ask for microphone permission?
A browser must have your explicit consent before a page can listen to the microphone, and it shows an indicator while it is active. Allow it for the tuner, press Stop when you are done, and revoke it any time from the site settings next to the address bar. Without a microphone you can still tune by ear with the reference tones.
Can I use the music tools on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The tuner works wherever the browser grants microphone access, and the virtual piano supports multi-touch chords and sliding between keys. A phone speaker is a poor judge of very low notes, so use headphones or a speaker for bass and for checking a sweep from the tone generator.
Which music tool finds the tempo of a song?
Use the BPM Counter. Tap along to the beat for a live reading, or drop in an audio file and it estimates the tempo and the position of the first beat, offering half-time and double-time alternatives when a track is ambiguous. Then set the Metronome to that value to practise with it.
