About Random Name Generator

The Random Name Generator draws first and last names from built-in lists of common given names and surnames for twelve regions: United States and United Kingdom, Spanish, Brazilian and Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Indian, Japanese in romaji, Chinese in pinyin, Russian, Arabic and Nigerian. Choose a region or mix them all, pick female, male or either, and generate up to 100 names in one go. Formats cover first and last, last comma first, a single name, a middle name or just a middle initial. Russian surnames get the correct feminine ending, and Japanese and Chinese names can be written family name first. Add a username or an address on the reserved example.com domain for test accounts. The same seed always returns the same list, and every name is chosen on your device.

Features

  • Twelve regional name sets, each with at least 150 given names per gender and 150 surnames
  • Mix every region at once or restrict the list to one
  • Female, male or mixed names, from 1 to 100 per draw
  • Six formats: first last, last comma first, first only, last only, with a middle name or a middle initial
  • Optional usernames or example emails that only ever use the example.com domain
  • Unique mode so one list never repeats a name
  • Seed field to reproduce an exact list, plus copy per name, copy all and CSV download
  • Family-name-first order for Japanese and Chinese, and gendered Russian surnames

Common errors & troubleshooting

  • Fewer names appear than the number you asked for. — With unique results on, a narrow choice such as first names only for one region and gender has a limited pool. Choose a wider region, turn off unique mode or use a full-name format.
  • The Generate button does nothing. — A value in the seed field locks the list on purpose so it stays reproducible. Clear the seed field and Generate will draw new names again.
  • Japanese or Chinese names appear in Western order. — Switch on the family-name-first option. It reverses first and last for those two regions only and leaves every other region alone.
  • A generated name looks like someone you know. — Names are combined at random from common given names and surnames, so coincidences happen. Treat every result as a placeholder and never as a real person.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the names in the Random Name Generator come from?
They come from lists of common given names and surnames built into the page, with at least 150 per gender and per region. Each result pairs a random first name with a random surname, so the combinations are placeholders, not records of real people.
Can the Random Name Generator repeat the exact same list later?
Yes. Enter any text in the seed field and the same options return the identical list every time. Leave the seed empty and each Generate press uses a fresh random seed, which is shown so you can keep it.
Are the example emails from the Random Name Generator real addresses?
No. Every email is built from a generated username and ends in example.com, a domain reserved for documentation and testing, so a message sent to one cannot reach a real inbox.
How does the Random Name Generator handle Russian surnames for women?
Surnames are stored in the masculine form and converted for female names, so Ivanov becomes Ivanova and Petrovsky becomes Petrovskaya. Names without a regular ending, such as Zhelezny, stay unchanged.
How many names can I generate at once, and can I export them?
You can generate 1 to 100 names per draw. Copy one name, copy the whole list as text, or download a CSV with the display name, first, middle and last name, gender, region, username and email columns.
Does the Random Name Generator send the names it creates anywhere?
No. Names are picked in your browser and your option choices are only remembered locally on your device, so no list, seed or setting is uploaded to ArrayKit.
