Об инструменте Coffee Ratio Calculator

A brew ratio is a weight ratio: 1:16 means one gram of coffee to sixteen grams of water. The arithmetic only stays honest in grams, because water is a convenient 1 gram per millilitre but ground coffee is not — which is why scooping by volume drifts as beans change roast and grind. The other half of the calculation is absorption. Wet grounds hold back roughly twice their own weight, so 500 g of water through 31 g of coffee leaves about 437 g in the cup, not 500. This calculator solves whichever of coffee, water or ratio you are missing, starts from the ratio each brew method is built around, and tells you how many actual mugs come out the other end.

Как использовать Coffee Ratio Calculator

  1. Pick the brew method to load its usual ratio
  2. Choose which of coffee, water or ratio to solve for
  3. Enter the two values you know, in whatever unit suits
  4. Read the dose, the water and the finished yield

Пример

Ввод

500 g water at 1:16

Результат

31.3 g coffee ≈ 5.9 level tablespoons
Yield 437 g ≈ 1.8 mugs (8 oz) or 3.0 carafe cups

The grounds keep about 63 g — twice their own dry weight.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

What is the best coffee to water ratio?
Between 1:15 and 1:17 for filter coffee, with the golden cup standard sitting near 1:16.7. French press runs stronger at 1:12, espresso is about 1:2, and cold brew concentrate is 1:8 before dilution.
How much coffee do I need for a full 12-cup carafe?
A 12-cup carafe holds 12 five-ounce cups, about 1,775 ml. At 1:16 that means roughly 111 g of coffee, but you need to add water to cover absorption — about 1,995 g in total to actually fill the carafe.
Why do coffee machines measure cups as five ounces?
Carafe markings follow an old convention where a cup is 5 fl oz — smaller than the 8 fl oz measuring cup and much smaller than the mug most people drink from. It is why a 12-cup machine fills about seven mugs.
How many tablespoons is 30 grams of coffee?
About 5.7 level tablespoons, since a tablespoon of medium-ground coffee weighs roughly 5.3 g. The figure drifts with grind size and roast level, which is why brewing by weight is more consistent.
Does the ratio change for cold brew?
Yes, substantially. A concentrate is brewed around 1:8 and diluted one-to-one when served; a ready-to-drink cold brew is made at about 1:15 and steeped for 12 to 18 hours in the fridge.
