About Word Unscrambler

The Word Unscrambler takes the letters on your rack and returns every dictionary word that can be built from them, not just the full-length anagram. Type up to 15 letters and use ? or * for as many as two blank tiles, and results appear instantly, grouped by length with the longest words first. Words that use every tile are highlighted, and each word shows its point value under Scrabble, Words With Friends or a simple A=1 to Z=26 table, with blank tiles correctly scored as zero. Narrow the list with starts-with, ends-with and contains filters, set a minimum or maximum length, or keep only true anagrams. Click a word to copy it. The dictionary is the public-domain ENABLE word list of roughly 173,000 English words, bundled with the page, so matching happens on your device and your letters are never sent anywhere. Other languages are not supported.

Common errors & troubleshooting

  • A word you know is valid does not appear in the results. — The list is the ENABLE dictionary, which differs from official Scrabble lists, and it contains plain words only: no proper nouns, abbreviations or hyphenated terms. Check the starts-with, ends-with and length filters too.
  • Some of the letters you typed are missing from the tile row. — A rack holds at most 15 letters and 2 blanks, so extra characters are dropped, and anything that is not A to Z or a blank is ignored. Accented letters and other alphabets are not supported.
  • A four-letter word is missing even though you have the tiles. — Check the minimum and maximum length boxes and the option that keeps only words using every tile. Reset the filters to see everything that fits.
  • The list is very long when a blank tile is added. — A blank can stand in for any letter, so it opens up many more words. Use the length, starts-with or contains filters to narrow it, and each group shows the first 200 words until you choose Show all.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Word Unscrambler handle blank tiles?
Type ? or * for each blank, up to two. A blank can stand in for any letter, but the tool always uses your real tiles first and only turns to a blank when a letter is missing. Letters played with a blank are shown with a dotted underline and score zero, as on a real board.
Which dictionary does the anagram solver use?
It uses the public-domain ENABLE word list, about 173,000 English words. It is a different list from the official Scrabble dictionaries, so a few words can be accepted in one and not the other. Always confirm a disputed play against the rules of your game.
Can the word unscrambler find words shorter than my tile count?
Yes. It returns every word that can be formed from any subset of your tiles, grouped by length with the longest first. Words that use all of your tiles are highlighted, and a switch lets you show only those full-length anagrams.
Do the Scrabble and Words With Friends scores match the board?
Each word is scored with that game's printed letter values, with blanks counting zero. Board bonuses such as double or triple letter and word squares and the bonus for using all seven tiles are not included, so treat the number as a base score.
Does this tool work with languages other than English?
No. Only English words are included and only the letters A to Z are accepted. Accented characters, other alphabets and other languages are ignored.
Are the letters I type into the unscrambler sent anywhere?
No. The word list is part of the page, and the matching happens on your device as you type. Your tiles are never transmitted, stored on a server or used to look anything up online.
