Common errors & troubleshooting
- The converter will not turn cups into grams. — Pick an ingredient first. Volume and weight only relate through density, so without knowing whether the cup holds flour or honey the conversion has no single answer.
- The gram figure does not match the one on a packet. — Densities vary with how the ingredient is handled. Scooped flour can weigh 15% more than spooned and levelled flour, which is precisely the inconsistency that weighing eliminates.
- A recipe's cup measurement gives odd results. — Check which cup the recipe means. This tool uses the US cup of 236.6 ml; a metric cup is 250 ml and an imperial cup 284 ml, so an Australian or older British recipe will differ.
- The amount field rejects what you typed. — Use a decimal like 2.5, a simple fraction like 3/4, or a mixed number like 1 1/2. Ranges and words such as "a pinch" cannot be converted.

- It depends entirely on the ingredient. A cup of all-purpose flour is about 125 grams, granulated sugar 200, butter 227 and honey 340. That is why any chart offering a single cups-to-grams number is only correct for one ingredient.
- Why do bakers weigh ingredients instead of using cups?
- Because a cup measures volume and how much flour fits in one depends on how it was filled. Scooping compacts it, spooning does not, and the difference can run to 15% — enough to change the texture of a cake. Weight removes that variable.
- How many tablespoons are in a cup?
- Sixteen tablespoons, or forty-eight teaspoons, in a US cup. Those are exact ratios that hold for any ingredient, since they are all volume measures.
- What is 350°F in Celsius and gas mark?
- 350°F is about 177°C, which is gas mark 4 and the most common baking temperature in recipes. For a fan or convection oven, drop it by roughly 20°C.
