Common errors & troubleshooting

A UK letter is not recognised. — UK sizes run from F to Z. Half sizes need the marker — N½, N 1/2 or N0.5 all work, but a bare N is a different size from N½.
The measured circumference lands between two sizes. — That is normal, and the tool reports how far off you are. Jewellers generally size up rather than down, especially for a wide band.
A paper strip measurement gives an unexpectedly large size. — Pull the strip snug rather than tight, and measure the base of the finger rather than over the knuckle unless the knuckle is much wider — in which case size for the knuckle so the ring goes on.
The same finger measures differently at different times. — Fingers swell in heat, after exercise and late in the day, and shrink when cold. Measure warm and at rest, and take the reading more than once.
