About Add Image to PDF

Printing a page, sticking a logo on it and scanning it back is the old way to do this, and it costs you the text layer and a lot of file size. Here the picture stays a picture: drag it around the page as it will really look, pull the corner to size it, set a rotation and an opacity, or pin it to one of nine anchor points with a margin in points so it lands identically on every sheet. Choose all pages, odd, even, a range such as 1-3, 7, or just the page in front of you. The picture can also sit behind the content, which is what a letterhead or a background mark needs. Pages are drawn and rewritten on your device.

Features

  • Drag the picture on the rendered page, or pin it to one of nine anchor points with a margin
  • Width set as a share of the page width, so it lands consistently on pages of different sizes
  • Rotation from -180° to 180° and opacity from 5% to 100%
  • Apply to this page, all pages, odd, even, or a range such as 1-3, 7
  • Place behind the content for letterheads and background marks
  • PNG and JPEG go in untouched; WebP, GIF, BMP and SVG are converted for you
  • A sideways phone photo is turned upright from the orientation its camera recorded
  • Existing page content is copied through, so text stays selectable and line art stays vector

How to use the Add Image to PDF

  1. Drop the PDF, then choose the logo, photo or stamp
  2. Drag it into place and set the width, rotation and opacity
  3. Choose which pages it goes on
  4. Add it, check the preview and save

Example

Input

invoice.pdf + company-logo.png (1200 × 400 px), top right, 22% wide, all pages

Output

invoice-with-image.pdf — the logo 36 pt in from the top and right edge of every page

An anchored placement keeps that margin even where a page size changes.

Common errors & troubleshooting

  • A picture placed behind the content is invisible. — A scanned page is one solid image and hides everything underneath it. Leave the picture on top and lower its opacity instead — the effect is the same and it works on any page.
  • My SVG logo lost its crispness. — A PDF cannot hold an SVG directly, so it is drawn at 2000 px on its longest side and embedded as a picture. For artwork that must stay vector, convert it with SVG to PDF and overlay the result instead.
  • The stamp is huge on one page and tiny on another. — Width is a percentage of each page's own width, so a mix of A4 and poster-sized pages gives very different results. Apply it to a range of matching pages, then repeat for the rest.
  • The PDF will not open for editing. — It is password-protected, and rewriting an encrypted file would scramble what is inside. Remove the password with Decrypt PDF first, then add the picture.

Frequently asked questions

Does placing a picture re-compress the rest of the page?
No. It is added as its own drawing layer and every other object is copied through untouched, so text stays selectable, vector graphics stay sharp and nothing is re-encoded.
Can I drop a signature image onto the last page only?
Yes — choose Range and type that page number. For drawing a signature by hand, with a printed name and date beside it, Sign PDF is the better fit.
Which picture formats can be placed on a page?
PNG and JPEG go in exactly as they are. WebP, GIF, BMP and SVG are redrawn as PNG first, because those two are the only kinds of bitmap a PDF can carry directly.
How do I make a logo look like a faint background rather than a sticker?
Drop the opacity to roughly 10-15% and turn on placing it behind the content. Text then reads over it on a digital page; on a scan, keep it on top and rely on the opacity alone.
Is the picture stored once or once for every page it appears on?
Once. It is embedded a single time and referenced from each page, so stamping a logo onto two hundred pages barely changes the size of the file.
