Your employment history, address and phone number stay on your device. The source is generated in the browser and the saved draft never leaves this machine.

Build the same CV as a PDF

About LaTeX Resume Generator

Writing a CV in LaTeX means fighting a template before you have written a word of it. This starts from the other end: fill in ordinary fields, and the .tex source is written for you — preamble, section commands, itemize environments and all. Four templates render the same content, so changing the look costs nothing you typed. The output deliberately depends only on packages a normal distribution already has — geometry, hyperref, enumitem, xcolor — and the section headings are defined in the document rather than pulled from a class you would then have to install. Copy it into an editor, or download the file and compile it wherever you like.

Features

  • Compilable .tex source, not a fragment to paste into someone else's template
  • Four templates — classic, modern, compact and academic — over the same content
  • Only packages a stock distribution ships, so it builds on an unprepared machine
  • Special characters escaped properly, so an ampersand or a percent will not break the build
  • Links written as \href targets with readable labels
  • A typeset PDF preview, so you can check the wording without installing TeX
  • Readiness check on the content itself, not just the formatting
  • Draft shared with the PDF resume builder, so you need only type it once

How to use the LaTeX Resume Generator

  1. Fill in your contact details, roles, education and skills
  2. Pick one of the four templates and read the description
  3. Check the wording in the PDF preview
  4. Copy the source, or download the .tex file and compile it

Example

Input

Two roles, five skills, one degree

Output

\cvsection{Experience}
\cventry{Principal Engineer, Difference Engine Co}{Jan 2021 – Present}

Section and entry commands are defined in the preamble, so every heading matches.

Common errors & troubleshooting

  • The document will not compile — an undefined control sequence. — Check that the whole file was copied, including the preamble above \begin{document}. The section and entry commands are defined there; pasting only the body leaves them undefined.
  • An ampersand or percent sign broke the build. — It should not — those characters are escaped as they are written out. If one slipped through, it came from text pasted after generation, so escape it with a backslash.
  • Accented characters come out wrong. — The preamble asks for UTF-8 input and T1 font encoding, which handles Latin scripts. Other writing systems need a Unicode engine such as XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX instead of pdfLaTeX.
  • The preview and the compiled PDF do not look identical. — They will not. The preview is typeset in the browser so you can check wording; LaTeX does its own hyphenation and justification, which is the reason to use it.

Frequently asked questions

Does this compile the LaTeX for me?
No — a TeX distribution is a large piece of software, and running one here would mean sending your CV somewhere. The source is produced on your device; you compile it wherever you already work, locally or in an online editor.
Which packages does the output need?
geometry, fontenc, inputenc, enumitem, xcolor and hyperref, plus helvet or mathptmx for two of the templates. All of them ship with a normal distribution, so nothing needs installing first.
Can I edit the source afterwards?
That is the point of exporting it. The generated file is ordinary, readable LaTeX with the headings defined once at the top, so changing a rule or a margin is a one-line edit.
How is this different from the resume builder?
The builder hands you a finished PDF. This hands you the source that produces one, for people who want to keep typesetting it themselves. Both read the same saved draft, so you can move between them.
Why are there no two-column templates?
Applicant tracking systems read a page left to right, so a sidebar interleaves itself into the main text. Every template here is a single column for that reason, which is also easier to typeset well.
