About VAT Calculator
VAT Calculator adds Value Added Tax on top of a net price or backs it out of a VAT-inclusive gross price, so you always know the net, VAT and gross figures for an invoice or quote. Switch between Add VAT and Remove VAT with a single toggle, type an amount and a VAT rate, and the net price, VAT amount and gross total update as you type. It is useful for freelancers pricing a quote, shop owners checking a receipt, or anyone confirming how much VAT is included in a gross price. These are estimates only, not tax or financial advice — confirm the applicable rate with a tax professional or your local tax authority. Everything computes locally in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded.

Common errors & troubleshooting
- VAT amount looks too high or too low. — Check whether the amount you entered is the net (VAT-exclusive) price or the gross (VAT-inclusive) price, and pick the matching Add VAT or Remove VAT mode.
- Rate entered as 0.2 instead of 20. — Enter the VAT rate as a whole percentage, e.g. 20 for 20%, not as a decimal fraction like 0.2.
- Removed VAT doesn't match the amount printed on a receipt. — Some receipts round each line item before totaling, which can shift the VAT figure by a cent or two versus a single reverse calculation on the total.
- Result shows an error banner. — Make sure both the amount and the VAT rate are filled in and are 0 or greater — negative values aren't valid VAT inputs.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the VAT Calculator?
- It is a tool that adds Value Added Tax to a net price or removes VAT already included in a gross price, showing the net, VAT amount and gross total for either direction.
- How does the VAT Calculator add VAT to a price?
- In Add VAT mode, enter the net price and rate. The tool multiplies the net price by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to get the gross price, and the difference is the VAT amount.
- How does the reverse VAT calculator remove VAT from a gross price?
- In Remove VAT mode, enter the gross (VAT-inclusive) price and rate. The tool divides the gross price by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to find the net price, then subtracts to get the VAT amount.
- Can I use the VAT Calculator for UK, EU or other country rates?
- Yes. The VAT rate field accepts any percentage, so you can enter the UK standard rate, a reduced rate, an EU member state's rate, or any other country's VAT or GST rate.
- Does the VAT Calculator upload my prices anywhere?
- No. The VAT Calculator runs entirely in your browser. The amounts and rates you type never leave your device and are not uploaded to ArrayKit.
- Is the VAT Calculator result financial or tax advice?
- No. It gives estimates only, based on the amount and rate you enter. Always confirm the correct VAT rate and treatment with a tax professional or your local tax authority.
