PNG to SVG Converter
Turn a PNG or JPG into scalable SVG shapes with the colours and detail you choose. The tracing runs in your browser and the image never leaves your device.
The image is decoded and traced on your device, in the background of this tab, and is never uploaded. The SVG is built here too and goes nowhere until you download or copy it.
The PNG to SVG Converter turns a bitmap into scalable vector shapes. It reduces the picture to the number of colours you choose, finds where each colour region begins and ends, and redraws every region as a smooth path, so a logo or icon stays sharp at any size. Presets for logos, icons, illustrations, photos and black and white line art set sensible starting values, and sliders adjust colours, detail, speck removal and blur. Pixels that only blend two neighbouring colours join one of those regions, so a flat logo comes out with exactly its own colours. Transparent areas can stay transparent, and a large image is traced at a reduced size while the SVG keeps its original dimensions. All of it happens on your device.
Features
Presets for logos, icons, illustrations, photos and black and white line art, each a starting point you can adjust
Two to 64 colours picked from the pixels themselves, so a flat logo keeps exactly its own colours
A Detail slider from coarse and smooth to fine and exact, plus speck removal and blur for noisy or JPG sources
Transparent areas stay transparent, or are filled with white if you prefer
A draggable before-and-after divider with 200% and 400% zoom, or a side-by-side view, for checking edges
Tracing runs in the background with the elapsed time shown, and changing a setting cancels the trace that is still running
The SVG keeps the original size and a matching viewBox, and opens at ×1 or ×2
Path count, file size and colours used, a warning above 1 MB, and a download or copy of the SVG code
How to use the PNG to SVG Converter
Drop in a PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or BMP, or paste an image from the clipboard
Pick the preset closest to your picture, then adjust the colours, detail, speck removal and blur
Drag the divider across the preview and zoom in to check the edges and small details

A flat logo becomes a handful of shapes, and the same file stays sharp whether it is shown as a favicon or on a billboard.
Common errors & troubleshooting
Shapes have lumpy edges or rounded corners. — A traced edge can only be as clean as the pixels it comes from. Use the largest version of the image you have, then try a Detail between 60% and 80%: lower smooths more, higher follows every pixel step.
The SVG is several megabytes and slow to open. — Photos and high colour counts need thousands of small shapes. Lower Colours, move Detail towards Coarse, raise Remove specks to 15 px or more, or add a little Blur.
Thin lines show between neighbouring shapes. — Turn on Outline shapes. It draws each shape's edge in its own colour and is on in every preset except Black & white.
The transparent background came out white. — The “Keep transparent areas” switch appears only when the image has transparency; make sure it is on. A JPG has no transparency to keep, so its background is traced as a colour.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the PNG to SVG Converter redraw my image instead of converting it exactly?
A PNG stores a grid of coloured pixels and an SVG stores shapes and curves, so there is no lossless way to turn one into the other. The tool works out where each colour region begins and ends and draws a shape for it. Edges become smooth curves, fine texture is simplified and gradients become bands of flat colour, which is why logos and line art trace well and photographs turn stylised.
How do I get the cleanest SVG from a logo with the PNG to SVG Converter?
Start from the largest, highest-contrast version of the logo and choose the Logo preset. Set Colours to the number of flat colours it really has; the tool never uses more than the picture contains. Keep Remove specks at 8 px or more to absorb stray pixels, add a little Blur if the source is a JPG, and check the edges at 400% zoom before you download.
What do the Colours and Detail sliders do in the PNG to SVG Converter?
Colours is the most colours the SVG may use, from 2 to 64. Detail sets how closely curves follow the pixel edge: towards Coarse the outlines are fewer, smoother and a little looser, towards Fine they hug every step and the file grows. Remove specks merges shapes with a short outline into their neighbours, and Blur smooths noise before the colours are chosen.
Can the PNG to SVG Converter vectorize a photo?
It can, but the result is a posterised, stylised version of the photo made from flat colour shapes, and the file is large because thousands of shapes are needed. The Detailed photo preset is the most faithful starting point. For a smaller file lower the colours or raise Remove specks, and keep photographs as JPG or WebP when you only need them to look like photographs.
Is my image uploaded when I trace it with the PNG to SVG Converter?
No. The image is decoded and traced on your device, and neither its pixels nor the SVG are sent anywhere. A large image is reduced to 1200 pixels on its long side for tracing so that it finishes in a few seconds, and the SVG keeps the original size.
How do I open and edit the SVG from the PNG to SVG Converter in Figma, Inkscape or Illustrator?
Download the .svg and drag it into the app, or use its Open or Import command. Every shape is a plain filled path with its colour set directly on it, so you can recolour, move, merge or delete shapes. The largest colour area is a single shape underneath, which you can delete to get a transparent background. Copy SVG code pastes the same markup into HTML or a code editor.
