Screen Recorder Online
Record a screen, a window or a browser tab, with your microphone if you like, and save it as a video file. The capture is encoded on your device and nothing is uploaded.
Your screen is captured and encoded on this device and held in memory until you download it. Nothing is uploaded, and every capture track is stopped the moment you finish.
The Screen Recorder captures a whole screen, a single window or one browser tab and saves it as a video file, with nothing to install. You choose the quality, from 720p at 30 frames per second up to 1080p at 60 or the screen's native size, then a bitrate of 2.5, 5 or 8 Mbps, whether to add your microphone, and whether to include tab or system sound when your browser offers to share it. A three-second countdown gives you time to switch windows, and pausing leaves the gap out of both the timer and the file. The video is encoded on your device while you record and exists only in memory until you download it. Most browsers record WebM, and one click converts that to an MP4 that opens in editors and on phones.
Features
Records a whole screen, a single window or one browser tab
Quality presets from 720p at 30 fps to 1080p at 60 fps, or the screen's native size
Bitrate of 2.5, 5 or 8 Mbps, with an estimate of the size per minute before you start
Adds your microphone with a choice of device, and mixes it with tab or system sound when the browser shares it
Optional 3-2-1 countdown, then pause and resume without leaving a gap in the video
Live timer, running file size and a small preview while you record
Saves in your browser's native container, WebM or MP4, and converts WebM to MP4 on your device
Finishes cleanly and keeps the take if you press the browser's own Stop sharing button
How to use the Screen Recorder
Pick the quality and bitrate, and switch the microphone on if you want to narrate
Press Start recording and choose a screen, window or tab in your browser's picker, ticking Share audio if you want that sound too
Record, then pause, resume or stop from the page — or press Stop sharing in the browser bar
Preview the take, then download it as WebM or convert it to MP4
Example
Input
Quality: HD · 1080p · 30 fps
Bitrate: 5 Mbps
Microphone: on · Countdown: on
Output
Before: about 37 MB per minute at most
After: Length 2:14 · Size 61 MB · Format WebM · Audio Microphone
Download: screen-recording-2026-10-10-1432.webm
A screen is mostly still, so the file usually lands well under the ceiling the bitrate allows.
Common errors & troubleshooting
The picker never appears, or the page says sharing was cancelled or blocked. — Press Start recording again and choose something to share. If nothing opens, the browser or operating system is blocking capture; on macOS, allow the browser under Screen Recording in the Privacy and Security settings and restart it.
The recording has your voice but no sound from the computer. — Browsers only share sound when Share audio is ticked in their picker. Tabs usually offer it, whole screens only on some systems, and a single window normally has none. Your microphone is separate and needs its own switch.
The video plays in the browser but will not open in an editor or on a phone. — WebM is not accepted everywhere. Use Convert to MP4, which re-encodes the video on your device into a format that nearly every editor, phone and messaging app opens.
The browser slows down during a long, high-quality recording. — The recording is held in memory until you download it. Lower the quality or the bitrate, or record in shorter takes and join them afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Screen Recorder capture system audio as well as my microphone?
Yes, within what your browser and operating system allow. Tick Also capture tab/system audio, then tick Share audio in the browser's picker; tabs usually offer it and whole screens do on some systems, while a single window normally does not. If both a microphone and shared sound are on, they are mixed into one track.
How long can I record with the Screen Recorder before the browser runs out of memory?
There is no fixed cap, but the video is held in memory until you download it. At 5 Mbps that is about 37 MB a minute at most, so an hour is a couple of gigabytes. The page warns you when a take passes one hour or one gigabyte so you can stop and save.
Does the Screen Recorder send my recording anywhere?
No. The screen is captured and encoded on your device, the file is built in memory, and it is saved only when you press Download. Every capture track is released the moment you stop, so the browser's sharing indicator goes away.
Why does the Screen Recorder save WebM, and how do I get an MP4?
WebM is the format most browsers can record natively, so the recording starts instantly and costs little processing. Press Convert to MP4 on the finished take and the video is re-encoded on your device into H.264 and AAC, which editors and phones accept. A browser that records MP4 directly shows MP4 as the format and skips the conversion step.
Why is the Screen Recorder not available on my phone or tablet?
Phones and tablets do not let web pages record the screen, so the browser offers no way to ask. Open the page on a desktop or laptop in a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, or use the screen recorder built into your phone.
What happens to my take if I press Stop sharing in the browser bar?
The recording finishes cleanly and is kept. The page notices that sharing ended, closes the file at that moment and shows the finished take with the length so far, exactly as if you had pressed Stop on the page.
