Online Voice Recorder
Record from your microphone with a live level meter, trim the take, and download it as a WAV or in the original format. Your voice stays on your device.
The microphone is opened only while you record and released the moment you stop. Your voice is recorded, trimmed and exported on this device, and nothing is uploaded.
This voice recorder opens your microphone only while you record. A level meter and a scrolling waveform show what is coming in, so a muted or distant microphone is obvious before you have talked for five minutes. Pause and resume as often as you like; the clock leaves the pauses out. When you stop, the microphone is released at once and the take appears with an overview waveform and a player. Trim it by dragging the start and end handles, normalise it so the loudest peak sits at minus one dBFS, and download a 16-bit WAV that opens anywhere, or the compact original your browser recorded. Up to five takes stay in memory for the visit so you can compare them. Nothing is uploaded.

Example
Input
Take 1 · 1:42 · 48 kHz mono
Trim: 0:00.0 – 1:42.0 · Normalize volume: on
A WAV is uncompressed: mono at 48 kHz is about 5.5 MB a minute, however well the original compressed.
Common errors & troubleshooting
The browser never asks for the microphone, or the page says access was blocked. — Allow the microphone for this site from the address-bar menu, then press Start recording again. If you dismissed the prompt earlier, the browser remembers that until you change the permission there.
The level meter stays flat while you talk. — The wrong input may be selected, or the microphone is muted at the system level. Choose another microphone from the list, check the input in your system sound settings, and watch for the meter to move before you start the real take.
The WAV is far larger than the recording you played back. — A WAV is uncompressed, while the original is compressed audio. If size matters, download the original, or convert the WAV to MP3 afterwards.
Your voice sounds processed or underwater. — Noise suppression and auto gain change the signal. Switch them off before you start, since they are applied when the microphone opens and cannot change mid-recording.
Frequently asked questions
Which file format does the Voice Recorder save, and how do I get a WAV?
Browsers record into a compressed container, usually WebM or Ogg with Opus, or M4A in Safari. Download original gives you that file untouched. Download WAV decodes the take on your device and writes 16-bit PCM at the recording's sample rate, which works in every editor and player.
How long can I record with the Online Voice Recorder?
There is no fixed limit, but a recording is held in memory until you save it, and the page warns you once a take passes thirty minutes. As a guide, a WAV of mono audio at 48 kHz is about 5.5 MB a minute, so thirty minutes is roughly 165 MB.
Is my voice uploaded when I use the Online Voice Recorder?
No. The microphone feeds the recorder in your browser, the take is kept in memory, trimming and normalising happen on your device, and nothing leaves it. Takes disappear when you close or reload the page.
Why is my Voice Recorder take so quiet, and how do I make it louder?
Move closer to the microphone and watch the level meter: speech should reach the upper middle, not the bottom. Check the input volume in your system settings, switch on auto gain, or tick Normalize volume to bring the loudest peak up to minus one dBFS when you download the WAV.
What is the difference between noise suppression and echo cancellation in the Voice Recorder?
Noise suppression reduces steady background sound such as a fan. Echo cancellation removes sound coming out of your speakers that the microphone would otherwise pick up again. Turn both off for music or an instrument, where processing changes the tone.
Why does the Voice Recorder say it cannot find my microphone?
No input was available to the browser. Plug the microphone in or enable it in your system sound settings, close other apps that might be holding it, and reload. If you use a headset, check it is set as the input device.
