About GIF to Video
GIF to Video converts an animated GIF into a modern video file right in your browser — choose MP4 or WebM and download a clip that is dramatically smaller than the original. GIF is an ageing format that stores every frame with little compression, so even a short loop can be several megabytes; re-encoding the same animation as MP4 or WebM often cuts the size by an order of magnitude while keeping the motion identical. Smaller files upload faster, embed cleanly in messaging apps and social platforms that reject or downgrade raw GIFs, and stream instead of loading all at once. Your GIF is read from your device and converted locally. Perfect for shrinking a heavy reaction GIF, prepping a loop for social media, or replacing bulky GIFs on a web page.

Common errors & troubleshooting
- The MP4 will not preview in the browser. — Some source containers can't be shown inline, but the conversion still runs — download the file and it will play in your usual video player.
- WebM does not play on an older device. — WebM support is narrower than MP4 on some phones and older browsers. Convert to MP4 instead for the broadest compatibility.
- The converted video is not as small as expected. — Very short or low-colour GIFs compress less. Try WebM, which usually produces the smallest file for the same animation.
- The GIF will not load. — Make sure the file is an animated .gif. Static images and other formats can't be converted with this tool.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert a GIF to video in my browser?
- Drop your animated GIF into GIF to Video, choose MP4 or WebM, and click Convert GIF. The video is created on your own device, never uploaded, and downloads immediately.
- Why convert a GIF to MP4 or WebM at all?
- GIF stores frames with little compression, so files are large. MP4 and WebM re-encode the same motion far more efficiently — often a tenth of the size — which uploads faster and shares better.
- Should I choose MP4 or WebM?
- Choose MP4 for the widest compatibility across phones, apps and older browsers. Choose WebM when you want the smallest possible file for the modern web and know your audience supports it.
- Will the animation still loop like a GIF?
- The frames and timing are preserved, so the motion is identical. Whether it loops automatically depends on the player or page you embed it in — most social platforms loop short clips by default.
- Does converting upload my GIF anywhere?
- No. GIF to Video runs entirely in your browser. Your GIF is read on your device, converted locally, and never sent to ArrayKit or any server.
- Can I turn a video back into a GIF?
- Yes. Use the Video to GIF tool to take a section of a video and export it as an optimized looping GIF.
