Mute a Video in Your Browser
Strip the audio track out of a video and keep the picture untouched — right in your browser, and your video never leaves your device.
Mute Video runs entirely in your browser. Your video is read and muted on your own device and is never uploaded to ArrayKit — the file you load, and any sensitive audio in it, never leaves your computer.

About Mute Video
Mute Video removes the audio track from a video and keeps the picture exactly as it was, right in your browser. Drop in a clip and the sound is stripped out while the video stream is copied verbatim — no re-encoding, so there is no quality loss and the export is quick. This matters for privacy: if a clip has a background conversation, a name, an address or any sensitive audio you would rather not share, muting it lets you post the visuals without the sound. It reads common containers like MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM and hands the result back in the same format. Because everything happens on your own device, the video is never uploaded, so even confidential footage stays private. Preview the silent result and download it in seconds.

Common errors & troubleshooting
- The muted file still plays sound. — Make sure you downloaded the exported -muted file rather than the original. The result has its audio track removed entirely.
- The muted video will not play in one specific app. — A few players dislike a video with no audio stream at all. Re-open it in a mainstream player, or add a silent track by replacing the audio instead.
- The video will not load or errors out. — The source may use an unsupported or DRM-protected codec. Try a standard MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM file.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I remove the sound from a video?
- Drop your video into Mute Video and click Remove audio. The soundtrack is stripped on your own device while the picture stays untouched, and the silent video downloads without ever being uploaded.
- Does muting re-encode or lower the quality of my video?
- No. The video stream is copied exactly as-is and only the audio track is dropped, so there is no re-encoding and no quality loss. That also makes muting much faster than a full conversion.
- Can I use this to hide sensitive background audio before sharing?
- Yes — that is a common reason to mute a clip. Removing the audio lets you share the visuals without a background conversation, a spoken name or any other sensitive sound, and it all happens on your device.
- What format is the muted video saved in?
- The muted file keeps the original container, so an MP4 stays an MP4 and a WebM stays a WebM. Only the audio track is removed; the video is unchanged.
- Is my video uploaded when I mute it?
- No. Mute Video works entirely in your browser. The file is read from your device, muted locally, and never sent to ArrayKit or any server, so private footage stays private.
- Can I put new music on the video instead of leaving it silent?
- Yes. If you want a soundtrack rather than silence, use the Add Music / Replace Audio tool to swap in an audio file of your choice.
