Common errors & troubleshooting
- The merge re-encodes even though the clips look identical. — “Identical” must include container, width and height — a 1080p MP4 plus a 1080p MOV re-encodes. Convert the odd one out to match first if you want the lossless path.
- A vertical phone clip came out letterboxed between landscape clips. — That is the aspect-preserving choice: the alternative is stretching or cropping. Decide the final orientation first and crop or rotate the outliers before merging.
- Audio jumps in loudness between segments. — The merger joins audio as-is; it does not level it. Normalise the quiet clip's audio beforehand — loudness differences between sources are the most audible seam in any merged video.
- A long merge of large files is slow. — Only the re-encode path is slow, since every frame is processed on your device. Matching clips merge in seconds — aligning your source settings is the single biggest speed win.
