About Calories Burned Calculator
Calories Burned Calculator estimates how many calories an activity burns using the standard MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) formula: calories = MET × 3.5 × weight (kg) ÷ 200 × minutes. Pick an activity from the built-in MET table — walking, running, cycling, swimming, weight training, and more — or enter a custom MET value for anything not listed, then add your body weight and workout duration in either metric or US units. The result updates instantly as you adjust any field, so you can compare how intensity, weight, or time change the total. It is handy for planning a workout, logging exercise, or comparing activities before a run or gym session. This is a general estimate from a standard formula, not medical advice. Everything runs locally in your browser — your weight and workout details are never uploaded.

- Instant results as you adjust activity, weight, or duration
- Copy a plain-text summary of the activity, inputs, and calories burned
- Clear error messages for missing or invalid inputs
- Uses the standard MET formula: MET × 3.5 × weight (kg) ÷ 200 × minutes
- Runs entirely in your browser — no workout data is uploaded
How to use the Calories Burned Calculator
- Choose Metric or US units
- Pick an activity from the MET table, or toggle Custom MET and enter your own value
- Enter your body weight and workout duration in minutes
- Read the estimated calories burned and copy the summary if needed
Example
Input
running 30 min, 70 kg
Output
Burned: ~360 cal
MET 9.8 (running, 6 mph) × 3.5 × 70 kg ÷ 200 × 30 minutes ≈ 360 calories.
Common errors & troubleshooting
- Result seems too high or too low compared to a fitness tracker. — The MET formula gives a general population estimate. Fitness trackers use heart rate and personal calibration, so results will differ — treat the calculator's number as a ballpark, not an exact reading.
- Weight entered in the wrong unit gives an unrealistic total. — Check the Metric/US toggle matches the number you typed — 70 kg and 70 lb produce very different calorie totals.
- Custom MET value gives a Banner error. — Enter a MET value greater than 0 (most activities fall between 1 and 15); a blank or negative value is treated as invalid.
- Calories burned shows 0. — Make sure weight and duration are both greater than 0 — a 0-minute workout or 0 kg/lb body weight always computes to zero calories.
Frequently asked questions
- How does the Calories Burned Calculator estimate calories?
- It uses the standard MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) formula: calories = MET × 3.5 × weight in kilograms ÷ 200 × minutes. Each activity in the table has a published MET value representing its exercise intensity.
- What is a MET value?
- MET stands for Metabolic Equivalent of Task — a measure of how much energy an activity uses relative to resting. A MET of 1 is roughly your resting metabolic rate; running at MET 9.8 burns about 9.8 times as much energy as sitting still.
- Can I calculate calories burned for an activity that isn't listed?
- Yes. Turn on Custom MET and enter the MET value for your activity from a published compendium, then the Calories Burned Calculator applies the same formula using your weight and duration.
- Does the Calories Burned Calculator work in pounds as well as kilograms?
- Yes. Switch the unit toggle to US to enter your weight in pounds — it is converted to kilograms internally before the MET formula is applied.
- Is the Calories Burned Calculator accurate enough to plan my diet?
- It gives a general estimate using a standard exercise-physiology formula, not medical advice. Actual calories burned vary with fitness level, effort, and individual metabolism, so use it as a guide and talk to a professional for personalized numbers.
- Does the Calories Burned Calculator upload my weight or workout data?
- No. All calculations run locally in your browser. The weight, duration, and activity you enter are never uploaded to ArrayKit.
