WhatsApp QR Code Generator

Enter a phone number and an optional first message to get a wa.me chat link and a scannable QR code, with copy-ready HTML and Markdown snippets, all built in your browser.

The WhatsApp QR Code Generator composes the link and draws the code in your browser. The phone number and message are never uploaded, and nothing goes to WhatsApp until someone scans the code and presses send.

About WhatsApp QR Code Generator

WhatsApp QR Code Generator builds a click-to-chat link, https://wa.me/ followed by a number, and turns it into a QR code. Whoever scans it lands in a chat with your number, with your message already typed in; nothing is sent until they press send. The part that usually goes wrong is the number. The link wants the full international digits, with no plus sign, no spaces and no leading zero. Pick the country, type the number the way you would dial it locally, and the tool adds the country code and removes the local prefix, so 07700 900123 in the UK becomes 447700900123. Paste a full +country number and the country is detected for you. The message is percent-encoded with emoji and line breaks intact.

Features

  • Builds the https://wa.me/ click-to-chat link with an optional prefilled message
  • Country list with calling codes, preselected from your browser language
  • Pasting a full international number detects the country automatically
  • Removes leading zeros and other local dialling prefixes, and tells you what it changed
  • Percent-encodes emoji, line breaks, ampersands and percent signs in the message
  • Copy-ready HTML button, Markdown link and plain link
  • Test link button to open the chat before you print the code
  • Green or custom colours, a live scan check, and PNG or SVG download

Example

Input

+91 98765 43210
Message: Hi, I'd like to book a table

Output

https://wa.me/919876543210?text=Hi%2C%20I%27d%20like%20to%20book%20a%20table

The plus sign and spaces are gone; the comma and apostrophe are percent-encoded.

Common errors & troubleshooting

  • WhatsApp says the phone number is invalid. — Check the country code and make sure no leading 0 is left in. The Full number line shows exactly what goes into the link, and it should be 8 to 15 digits in total.
  • The country code appears twice, as in 9191 at the start. — A full international number was typed into the national field. Paste it with its plus sign so the country is detected, or delete the code from the field; the tool warns when a number looks repeated.
  • The chat opens but the message is empty. — The text parameter only works when the link opens straight into WhatsApp. A link rewritten or shortened by another service can lose it, so share the plain wa.me link instead.
  • The QR code is hard to scan once a long message is added. — Every encoded character adds to the pattern, and emoji or non-Latin letters take up to twelve characters each. Shorten the message or leave it out and let the customer type.

Frequently asked questions

How does a wa.me link work and what does the WhatsApp QR code contain?
A wa.me link is https://wa.me/ plus the full number as digits, optionally followed by ?text= and a percent-encoded message. The QR code simply holds that link, so a phone camera opens WhatsApp on a chat with that number and the message ready to send.
Which phone number format should I enter for a WhatsApp QR code?
Choose the country and type the number as you would dial it locally. The tool puts the country code in front and removes the leading zero or other dialling prefix, so the link ends up with international digits only: no plus sign, spaces, dashes or brackets.
How long can the prefilled message be and how is it encoded?
Up to 1,000 characters here. It is encoded as UTF-8 percent sequences: a space becomes %20, a line break %0A and an ampersand %26. Emoji and non-Latin scripts take nine to twelve characters each once encoded, so a long message makes a denser, harder-to-scan code.
How do I add a WhatsApp chat button to my website?
Copy the HTML snippet and paste it where the button should appear. It is a plain link styled as a button that opens in a new tab, with no script, tracker or external image, so you can restyle it with your own classes.
Does the WhatsApp QR Code Generator store my phone number or message?
No. The link is composed and the code drawn in your browser, and nothing is uploaded. When someone scans the code their own phone opens WhatsApp directly, and nothing is sent until they press send.
Can the same wa.me link point to a WhatsApp Business number?
Yes. Click-to-chat links work for personal and Business numbers alike, because the link only names a phone number. Business features such as a greeting message or catalogue are set inside the Business app, not in the link.
