Thumbmark Maker
Turn a photo of your inked thumbprint into a clean, transparent PNG that drops straight into a form box.
The photo is decoded and the print lifted off it inside this tab. A fingerprint is biometric data you cannot change, so neither the picture nor the PNG is sent anywhere.
Forms ask for a thumbmark in a box the size of a postage stamp — a Philippine “right thumbmark”, an Indian affidavit, a Gulf application — and a phone photo of the inked print is never what they want: grey paper, a hand shadow, and a white rectangle that covers the ruled line it is meant to sit on. So the paper is measured first. How bright the bare sheet would be is estimated across the whole picture and divided out, which treats the sunlit side and the shadowed side alike; the ridges that remain are cut out at a threshold you can nudge, marks that are no part of the print are dropped, and the result is trimmed, padded and saved with nothing behind it. It runs on your device, and it digitises the print you made — it never invents one.
Features
Uneven lighting and a hand shadow are levelled out before any ink is cut
A sensitivity slider decides how faint a ridge still counts
Specks and stray marks go; pores and ridge dots that touch the print are kept
Trimmed to the print with a small margin, so it lands inside a form box
Ink recoloured black, blue, red or violet to match the rest of the paperwork
Transparent PNG, so no white rectangle hides the line underneath
Preview on a checkerboard or inside a mock “Right thumbmark” box
Original, 600 px or 300 px wide — a smaller print is never enlarged
How to use the Thumbmark Maker
Roll an inked thumb once across plain white paper and photograph it in even daylight
Drop the photo in; the paper is measured and the print lifted off it
Nudge the sensitivity until every ridge shows and nothing else does
Choose the ink colour and width, then download the PNG or copy it
Example
Input
thumb.jpg — a 3024 × 4032 photo of an inked print on a notepad, lit from one side
Output
thumb-thumbmark.png — 512 × 604 px, transparent, black ink
The notepad, the shadow and the edge of the table are all gone.
Common errors & troubleshooting
The result is a solid blob with no ridges in it. — The thumb was over-inked. Press it a second time without re-inking and photograph that lighter impression — it almost always shows the ridges better. Lowering the sensitivity helps a heavy print too.
One side of the print is missing. — Raise the sensitivity to catch fainter ink. If it is only one side, the pressure or the light was uneven: roll from nail edge to nail edge and hold the phone parallel to the paper with no shadow across the sheet.
Lines from the paper came through as ink. — Ruled, textured or recycled paper is read as marks. Use plain white paper and lower the sensitivity so only the darkest pixels survive.
The form insists on a JPEG, not a PNG. — Convert it with Image Converter — but a JPEG cannot store transparency, so the white box comes back. Place the PNG on the document instead where you can.
Frequently asked questions
Does the photo of my thumbprint leave my phone?
No. The photo is decoded and worked on inside this tab, and the PNG is written there as well. A fingerprint is permanent biometric data — you cannot reissue it the way you can a password — so nothing about it is sent anywhere.
Can this generate a thumbprint for me?
No, and it is not built to. There is no generator here: every ridge in the result comes from the picture you supplied. It digitises an impression you made yourself, nothing more.
How do I get a clean inked impression in the first place?
Press the thumb evenly onto a stamp pad without soaking it, roll it once across plain paper from one side of the nail to the other, and lift straight up. If the first press is a blot, press again without re-inking.
Why must the thumbmark have a transparent background?
Because a form's thumbmark box usually has a ruled line, a border or a label inside it. A print saved with white behind it paints a rectangle over all of that; a transparent one lets the box show through.
How many pixels wide should a thumbmark be for a form?
A print about 600 px across prints crisply at the size these boxes usually are. Choose 300 px when an upload limit is tight; the original width is there for printing larger.
