About Pomodoro Timer

The Pomodoro Timer runs the classic cycle for you: a focus session, a short break, and after the fourth session a longer one. Tabs for Focus, Short break and Long break show where you are, dots under the clock count sessions toward the long break, and every length is yours to change. The defaults are 25, 5 and 15 minutes, with one-click presets for 50/10/30 deep work, 90/20/30 ultradian cycles and 15/3/10 sprints. Time is read from the system clock instead of being counted tick by tick, so the countdown stays correct when the tab sits in the background. When a phase ends you get a chime, an optional desktop notification and a flashing tab title, and auto-start can roll straight into the next phase. Completed focus sessions are logged on your device only, feeding today's totals and a seven-day chart.

Features

  • Focus, short break and long break phases, each with its own tab
  • Session dots that count toward the long break, which you can place after 1 to 12 sessions

  • Optional auto-start so each phase flows into the next without a click
  • Chime, alarm or beep at each phase end, with a volume slider and optional desktop notification
  • Live countdown in the browser tab title, full-screen mode and a screen that stays awake while running

  • History saved in this browser only, with a one-click Clear history

Common errors & troubleshooting

  • The phase ended but I heard nothing. — Browsers only allow sound after you have interacted with the page. Press Start or Test sound once in this tab, then check the volume slider and that the sound is not set to Off.
  • My new focus length did not change the session already running. — New lengths apply to the next phase that starts. Press Reset, or click the phase tab, to restart the current phase with the new length.
  • The chime came a few seconds late while I was in another tab. — The countdown itself reads the real clock, but browsers slow down background timers, so the alert can lag slightly. Turn on desktop notifications and keep this tab open.
  • Desktop notifications never appear. — Notification permission is blocked for the site. Allow it from the address-bar menu, then switch Notify me off and on again.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique and how does this Pomodoro Timer apply it?
The technique, devised by Francesco Cirillo, splits work into short focused intervals, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by brief breaks, with a longer break after four. This timer automates the cycle: it counts each phase, moves on to the right break, and tracks your sessions toward the long one.
Why does the Pomodoro Timer give a long break after four sessions?
Four sessions is the traditional length of one cycle, long enough to build momentum and short enough to stay fresh. You can set sessions per cycle anywhere from 1 to 12, and the dots under the clock follow whatever you choose.
Can I change the focus and break lengths in the Pomodoro Timer?
Yes. Each of the three lengths accepts 1 to 180 minutes, and the presets fill in common setups such as 50/10/30 for deep work or 90/20/30 for ultradian rhythm. Your choices are remembered for next time.
Does the Pomodoro Timer keep counting in a background tab?
Yes. It stores when the phase is due to end rather than counting seconds, so the display is correct the moment you return. Some browsers delay the sound or notification of a hidden tab by a few seconds.
What does auto-start do in the Pomodoro Timer?
With auto-start on, the next phase begins by itself when one ends, so focus rolls into a break and back without a click. With it off, the timer waits on the next phase until you press Start.
Where does the Pomodoro Timer keep my session history?
Only in this browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to ArrayKit, it is not shared between devices, and Clear history removes it. Clearing your browser data also erases it.
