Churn Rate Calculator Online
Turn your subscriber numbers into churn, retention, net revenue retention, annualised churn and lifetime value, with a forecast and cohort curve, all calculated on your device.
The Churn Rate Calculator runs entirely in your browser. Customer counts and revenue figures stay on your device and are never uploaded.
The Churn Rate Calculator covers the five questions a subscription business keeps asking about lost customers. Customer churn divides the customers you lost by the customers you started the period with, then shows retention, net growth, the churn compounded over a year and the implied average lifetime. Revenue churn separates cancellations, downgrades and upgrades to give gross and net revenue churn, gross and net revenue retention, and flags negative churn when expansion outruns losses. The lifetime value tab adds gross margin, acquisition cost, LTV to CAC and payback. A forecast projects customers month by month towards the steady state, and the cohort tab turns raw counts into a retention curve. Every figure is computed in your browser, and nothing you enter is stored or uploaded.

Example
Input
Customers at start: 1,000
Customers lost: 50
New customers: 80
Period: month
Output
Churn rate: 5.00% per month
Retention rate: 95.00%
Customers at end: 1,030 (net growth 3.00%)
Annualised churn: 45.96%
Average lifetime: 20.0 months
Five percent a month sounds small but compounds to nearly half the base in a year.
Common errors & troubleshooting
Churn looks too low because new customers were added to the starting count. — Use only the customers you had on the first day of the period as the denominator. Customers acquired during the period belong in the new-customers field, which affects net growth but never the churn rate.
Annual churn is wrong when multiplying the monthly rate by 12. — Churn compounds on a shrinking base, so 5% a month is about 45.96% a year, not 60%. The annualised figure here uses 1 − (1 − monthly churn)^12.
Lifetime value shows an error for a churn rate of zero. — With no churn the average lifetime is unbounded. Enter a realistic small churn rate, such as the rate observed over a longer period, to get a finite value.
Net revenue retention is above 100% and it feels like a mistake. — That is possible when upgrades and add-ons from existing customers exceed cancellations and downgrades. The calculator labels it negative churn; check that new-customer revenue was entered in its own field.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Churn Rate Calculator work out customer churn?
It divides the customers lost during the period by the customers at the start of that period. New customers are excluded from the denominator. Retention is one minus that rate, and net growth compares the end count with the start count.
What is the difference between gross and net revenue churn here?
Gross revenue churn counts only lost revenue, meaning cancellations plus downgrades, as a share of starting MRR. Net revenue churn subtracts expansion revenue as well, so it can go below zero and show negative churn.
How do I convert monthly churn to annual churn with this calculator?
Choose Month as the period on the customer churn tab. The annualised result applies 1 − (1 − c)^12, which reflects that each month's losses come out of a smaller base than the month before.
Which formula gives the customer lifetime value on the lifetime value tab?
Lifetime value equals average revenue per account times gross margin, divided by the churn rate. Add a customer acquisition cost to also see the LTV to CAC ratio and the months needed to earn the cost back.
What does the steady-state number in the churn forecast mean?
It is new customers per month divided by monthly churn. At that size the customers you lose each month equal the ones you add, so the base stops growing even though acquisition continues.
Are the churn benchmarks on this page official industry figures?
No. They are informal rules of thumb for subscription businesses and vary widely with price, contract length and market. Treat them as context and compare against your own history and segments.
